This article discusses an ABA resolution for the appointment of lawyers to provide pro bono legal services to low-income individuals when basic human needs are at stake, such as those involving shelter, sustenance, safety, health or child custody. Professor Davis notes that the right to counsel in such cases may be required by international human rights standards recognizing the right to adequate food, clothing and housing and calling for equal and fair public hearings.
